Introduction...

Come slowly
a poem by Emily Dickinson

Come slowly, Eden
Lips unused to thee.
Bashful, sip thy jasmines,
As the fainting bee,
Reaching late his flower,
Round her chamber hums,
Counts his nectars -alights,
And is lost in balms!

  1. When Emily Dickinson first wrote this poem, before editors messed with it, it looked like this:

    Come slowly - Eden!
    Lips unused to Thee -
Bashful - sip they Jessamines -
    as the fainting Bee -
    Reaching late his flower,
    Round her chamber hums -
    Counts his nectars -
Enters - and is lost in Balms.

Those extra dashes give it a much more seductive pace, don't think?
